Boulley is an enrolled member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe Of Chippewa Indians. Born into storytelling people, she was first introduced to the art of storytelling through generational oral tradition. When Boulley searched for representation in the books she was reading, she realized the examples lacked depth and true experiences. In her mid-forties, she wrote her own experiences into existence. Boulley’s father is a traditional firekeeper, who strikes ceremonial fires at spiritual activities in the tribal community while providing cultural teachings through stories told around the fire.
