Booklist - 02/01/2026 In this third installment of Spradlin’s series about the rise of Nazi Germany, the narration switches to Joshua Greenburg, a Jewish Boy Scout living in Heroldsberg, Germany, and friend to fellow scouts Ansel and Rolf. It is June 1931, and Joshua invites his two friends to spend the summer at his family’s summerhouse near Salzburg, Austria, for one last adventure together before Rolf and his family emigrate to America. But in Salzburg, the boys discover a growing Hitler Youth movement, joined by Rolf’s older brother, Romer, who left his family to join the ranks of the Youth in Munich. This fast-paced novel provides context for the more familiar events of WWII, demonstrating the ways Hitler found support not only among German adults frustrated with the economic consequences of the Treaty of Versailles but also through the indoctrination of young people using tactics like the Hitler Youth. Fans of Alan Gratz and Adam Gidwitz will enjoy this book about three boys who must use their wits to outmaneuver their bullies. - Copyright 2026 Booklist.
