Booklist - 12/01/2024 Nineteen-year-old Rutherford set out from Belgium in a microlight plane in August 2021 and, five months and 52 countries later, became the youngest woman to fly solo around the world. Here, in a short but lively account, she retraces her route, recalling various spots, such as Iceland and an erupting volcano, and India and thick air pollution; hazards ranging from massive storms to a flat tire; and favorite new foods encountered. Along the way she explains planning her route and extols aviator heroes like the Wright brothers and Bessie Coleman, in addition to her own sleek aircraft. She makes it all sound more like a fun adventure than a death-defying feat, and as a slender, confident-looking figure in wire-rimmed glasses in Liu’s bright illustrations, she looks fully capable of handling any crises that might pop up. In closing, she urges readers to believe in their dreams, and in a “What Next?” coda contemplates seeing our planet from space as an item on her bucket list.
