School Library Journal - 07/01/2017 Gr 4–6—Since Kenzie's mother died three years ago, Kenzie and her father haven't had a home. They travel all over for his job, never staying anywhere for longer than a few days. Luxury hotels, VIP treatment, and adventure are great, but when offered the chance to stay in Las Vegas, NV, for six weeks and attend middle school, Kenzie can't wait. She jumps right in, making new friends, auditioning for the school musical, and running for class vice president. Kenzie wants to tell her new friends that she'll be leaving in six weeks, but she can't bring herself to do so. When the truth comes out and hurts many of her friends, Kenzie must make things right again. The protagonist is remarkably well adjusted for someone in her situation, especially considering the death of her mother. The adults exhibit problematic behavior, from Kenzie's clueless father to the unprofessional principal. This novel will appeal to readers looking for a book where conflicts are resolved relatively easily with a few heartfelt conversations. VERDICT Purchase for large collections seeking titles aimed at middle graders eager to read about middle school life.—Kefira Phillipe, Nichols Middle School, Evanston, IL - Copyright 2017 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
