School Library Journal - 10/01/2025 Gr 1–4—Emma Carter is back with more everyday adventures in this beloved early chapter book series featuring a Deaf main character. In these newest installments, Emma picks out the perfect pumpkin and carves a Jack-o'-lantern with a Cochlear Implant for her Halloween patch and later faces her fear of a steep sledding hill during a snowy day. The stories are brief and accessible, with large, colorful illustrations that support the text and highlight emotions and action. Signs are incorporated directly into the story with both finger spelling and illustrations, reinforcing key vocabulary in a natural and engaging way. Each book concludes with a short glossary, discussion questions, and new signs to learn—perfect for encouraging curiosity about sign language and Deaf culture. VERDICT These new titles maintain the high quality of the series and are a strong, inclusive addition to any collection. - Copyright 2025 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
