School Library Journal - 04/01/2026 Gr 2–5—These short, accessible introductions to ancient civilizations, written for younger readers, deliver substantial factual content. Each volume focuses on a single civilization and covers location, time period, daily life, government, economy, and notable events, giving readers a clear overview of how each society functioned. The writing is concise and direct, with brief sections that are easy to absorb without oversimplifying the subject. Large photographs or graphics appear on each spread alongside a few sentences of text, and bright colors and strong visual design support comprehension. The format works well as an introduction for late elementary students and as a complete overview for younger grades. Each book includes a facts page, glossary, and a learn more section. While a table of contents and index are included, they are too brief to support research. VERDICT A solid purchase for introductory information on ancient civilizations. - Copyright 2026 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
