Booklist - 10/01/2025 All the usual trimmings of a Christmas movie come together in a Christmas Eve race against time to, you guessed it, save Christmas. While her father fixes a flat tire, 12-year-old Virginia wanders off and stumbles into one of Santa’s reindeer. As if she and her father weren’t already having trouble communicating after the loss of her mother, convincing him that she needs to help Donner get back to Santa isn’t exactly helping. In their mission to reunite Donner with the other reindeer, Virginia and her exuberant sidekick, Benny, sneak past parents and suspicious reindeer trackers. The digital artwork is reminiscent of newspaper comics, and the nostalgic 1950s setting doesn’t add much more than texture, other than an opportunity to show the Continental Air Defense Command Center staff watching blips from the reindeer on an outdated air radar screen, which might be lost on younger readers. This is an easy read with typical holiday tropes, though there's not much new here except explanations of the convoluted way Santa runs his corporate business. - Copyright 2025 Booklist.
