Booklist - 01/01/2026 Middle kid Sonal wants a perfect family picture for her school project, like the ones in her nanna’s (grandpa's) photo album, but she can’t get her parents and siblings to put away their electronics long enough to smile for the camera. Fortunately, Nanna has a plan to get the family off their devices and back to some old-fashioned fun: a weekend camping trip, no screens allowed! Patel’s story treads familiar territory—the disconnect that siblings experience as they grow up and find new interests, the busy modern family with no time for each other, the omnipresence of electronic distractions. Yet, Sonal’s desire to engage with her family, plus the warmth and humor evident from the start, make the Guptas a family to root for. Forshaw’s dynamic pencil drawings feature big emotions against inviting and realistic backdrops. Indian food and language are woven into the narrative, and, with a mischievous puppy thrown into the mix, the Guptas’ outdoor adventure is a quick, funny, and relatable read, great for newly independent readers. - Copyright 2026 Booklist.
