School Library Journal - 05/02/2026 Gr 4–7—This second installment in Libenson's "Emmie & Amigos" series follows Izzy and Brianna's journeys through ninth grade. Izzy's imagination gets the best of her when it comes to keeping up with schoolwork, while Brianna's laser focus on school grades stifles opportunities to think outside the box. Enter two boys and new opportunities with drama club, and their school lives are turned around. Fans of Libenson's Invisible Emmie will recognize Brianna as Emmie's best friend in this highly illustrated companion novel. Quirky clues that hint at the connection between Izzy and Bri will make readers flip back through the pages as they decipher how the girls' lives overlap. Throughout this translation of Positively Izzy, specific Spanish-language words and phrases are highlighted in bold for emphasis. Budding dramatists will relate to both girls' experiences on stage and off as each has a chance to be in the spotlight at the school's annual talent show. The welcome presence of family and friends to help the protagonists survive the school year will resonate with tweens. Izzy and Bri present as white. Bri's potential love interest Dev has brown skin. VERDICT This Spanish-language novel is perfect for middle school shelves where books by Raina Telgemeier, Shannon Hale, and Jennifer Holm are popular.—Sharon Sherman - Copyright 2026 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
