School Library Journal - 07/18/2025 PreS-Gr 3—In this wonderful addition to the "Digger" series, Digger and crew are back for a holiday adventure. They spend Christmas Eve decorating the town before searching for a tree. But when they find the perfect tree for Santa to leave presents under, there is a problem: Hauler's bucket is empty of decorations! The crew is sad as they contemplate a treeless Christmas and no place for Santa to leave presents. Forest friends chip in ideas, and the tree is soon decorated with a pinecone garland, berry and leaf sprigs, and a star-shaped topper made from twigs. While Santa is mentioned several times, and his sleigh and reindeer are pictured, presents are never illustrated beneath the tree. This adds to the friendship and cooperation theme of the book; upon reflection, the group agrees that while they hope Santa brings lots of gifts, friends (new and old) are the best gift of all. Adorable illustrations depict a decorated, festive, and snowy Christmas, complementing the crew's primary color scheme. Back matter includes easy nature craft ideas and STEAM activities. VERDICT Great for a story time and nature craft combo, as well as a cute Christmas addition to library collections.—Sarah Sieg - Copyright 2025 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
