Bird has an idea about a puffy fluffy octopus cloud and is intent on finding it. Bear is eager to make a friend; Bird, meanwhile, is on the hunt; they team up to search the sky, brainstorming imaginative ways to spot the elusive cloud. Though their quest doesn't lead to the creature Bird hopes for, it does lead to something unexpectedly wonderful—a brand-new friendship. This gentle prequel stands firmly on its own, offering an accessible origin story for young fans and newcomers alike. The pastel digital illustrations, familiar in style from previous books, gain new warmth and expansiveness in the larger picture book format. Soft transitions, expressive characters, and a cozy forest palette make each spread inviting. The pacing is just right for story time, with enough repetition and visual humor to support young listeners.
