School Library Journal - 05/01/2025 Gr 3–7—Growing up presents the challenge of not only learning to love and accept yourself, but to love and accept others. The friends in this book bond through their differences, and there are many. Their group includes a lizard boy, a sasquatch, a robot, a girl made from snakes, and two humans—all just trying to have the most perfect summer. The community is close to finding out about the existence of the non-humans, and they will need unity now more than ever. You can feel the love and the sense of camaraderie between the friends as well as their families. The second book in this series presents a vision of community many readers will want to strive for. VERDICT Sometimes it takes a group of misfits to demonstrate true family and community. Who wouldn't want to be friends with a cryptid? - Copyright 2025 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
