School Library Journal - 05/01/2018 Gr 3–6—The wizard's dog is back and saving Camelot. In order to save the Lady of the Lake, Nosewise, Merlin, Arthur, and Morgana must enter the fairy realm in search of the Holy Grail. But darkness has overtaken the land and evil awaits. Nosewise must win a magical game of fetch to restore goodness to Camelot. Well-written and entertaining, this sequel is an engaging continuation of the adventures begun in the first book. This series offers young readers an entry point for Arthurian legends while keeping the tone light and the pacing swift. VERDICT Add this where the first installment has readers. Consider the series for medium and large collections where magical fantasy and canine adventures circulate well.—Elizabeth Speer, Weatherford College, TX - Copyright 2018 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.

Booklist - 05/01/2018 Having successfully rescued Merlin from the Otherworld Fae folk, fought off evil Oberon, and extricated Excalibur from the stone, brave Nosewise (the talking-dog hero) and his human companions (Merlin, Arthur, and Morgana) find that Nivian, the Lady of the Lake, is near death. All her powers are being stripped by the magic-consuming sprite worms that they thought they destroyed in their first adventure, The Wizard’s Dog (2017). Their dangerous mission this time involves saving Nivian by traveling once more to the Otherworld to find the lost castle of Camelot; retrieve the Holy Grail, with its life-giving water; and return with the water for Nivian. During the quest, the ragtag group encounters evil Fae and fights the powerful Lady Mithriel yet finds friends—human and animal, including a dragon. As Nosewise narrates their story, he retains the characteristics of a loyal, caring canine friend. Phillips’ shaded illustrations enhance Gale’s delightfully humorous, imaginative take on Arthurian legend. Fans of Merlin and King Arthur will relish this latest addition and crave more adventures from Nosewise and company. - Copyright 2018 Booklist.
