Booklist - 11/01/2024 In the third book of the Frank and the Puppy series, Frank (a tuxedo cat) and Sunny (a corgi pup) face their most fierce advisory to date: a little girl. Frank and Sunny's humans, a multiracial queer couple, have their niece, Nellie, over to visit, and things quickly go awry. Frightening Nellie with her excitement, Sunny gets locked in her kennel. Meanwhile, Nellie treats Frank like a doll by dressing him in a clown suit against his will. The final straw is when Nellie tries to conduct a wedding between Frank and Captain Keith, the parrot. Finally, the adults intervene, coaxing Frank out from under the bed and speaking to the pets and Nellie about how to treat each other with kindness. They celebrate their new understanding with a wedding toast (a slice of bread with yummy jam). The colorful, lively illustrations made using poster paint on printmaking paper are bright and inviting. The character’s amusing facial expressions, paired with an effective narrative, provide a starting point for talking about consent, respect, and treating others with kindness. - Copyright 2024 Booklist.
