School Library Journal - 04/11/2025 Toddler-K—In this new addition to Daywalt and Jeffers's series, the Crayons celebrate Father's Day by showing love for their families. Each crayon takes a turn sharing who they are loving this holiday and why. First up is Brown Crayon, who "loves her dad because he loves learning as much as teaching." In the series' signature style, the main text is in black, accompanied by playful gray dialogue: "I have no idea how to throw this thing, but let's figure it out together." The book features a rainbow of crayons demonstrating how they celebrate Father's Day with their diverse families. Blue-Green loves both her dads, Blue and Green, while Beige crayon is loving his mom. Pale Yellow Crayon loves her dad, depicted in the illustrations as a calculator, while Navy Blue crayon loves his stepdad, a remote control. While the book has all the humor and colorful characters fans of the series will recognize, it is the inclusive, nontraditional portrayal of Father's Day that truly shines. VERDICT A great purchase for libraries where the series is popular, or for those needing a Father's Day read-aloud.—Nicolette Pavain - Copyright 2025 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
