Booklist - 11/01/2025 Mrs. Z’s third-grade class is voting for their new class mascot. It was Thunder’s idea to adopt a small mascot—the school’s mascot is an elephant—but what she had in mind was a small, furry hamster, like her own Adam Driver, not Theo’s recommendation of a tardigrade. Thunder thinks there’s no way the class will listen to her over popular Theo. Although everyone is nice to her, she knows she’s not like the “regular” kids; she’s more like the “scratch and dent” cans that her dad brings home from the grocery store. So when she comes upon a small orphaned opossum, she knows it could be the perfect class mascot if she can just coax a few students to her side. Unfortunately, she didn’t count on a baby marsupial being such an escape artist when she smuggled him into the school. In this hilarious but heartwarming story, Thunder learns that even scratch and dent” kids can find acceptance and belonging. Readers will eagerly cheer on this quirky and lovable character. A perfect choice for Wayside School fans. - Copyright 2025 Booklist.
