School Library Journal - 10/01/2025 Gr 2–4—The incomparable Ana Hibiscus is back with new adventures and life experiences with her family in Lagos, Nigeria. While the first story in this collection focuses on Ana's frustration for getting blamed every time her little brothers cause trouble, the rest of the stories focus on Ana and her family getting over the death of their beloved grandfather. With range and sensitivity, the stories follow Ana and her siblings as they encounter denial, sorrow, rage, and eventual acceptance with the loving help of their family and friends. Atinuke doesn't flinch from real pain and emotions here, and young readers will respect and relate. As always, black and white illustrations accompany each story and provide a welcome visual to the delightful characters and antics on the page.
