Several historical figures are included, as well as other notable women, such as Nina Simone, Faith Ringgold, and Misty Copeland, who have made important contributions in the arts, media, sports, and science. The warmth and depth of the poet’s words are amplified in the lively digital portrayals of the featured women. Adults reading the book aloud and fielding questions about the public figures mentioned will appreciate the well-organized information in the appended section, where the book celebrates the increasingly varied professional choices available for Black women today. The closing pages also offer a small portrait and a concise paragraph of biographical information describing each woman introduced within the main text.
