Booklist - 04/01/2024 A friendly fox takes the stage to report on furniture facts, conceding that most people use sofas for sitting or sleeping, though they have myriad other uses, including pillow sliding. With that announcement, a bespectacled badger appears from the wings, armed with a roll of black censor tape, ready to black out anything in the lecture that he deems unsafe or untrue. The frustrated fox counters that the badger isn’t the furniture police and has no authority; after all, everyone knows that the furniture police ride dinosaurs and tend to be focused on lassoing runaway sofas. The bewildered badger continues to do battle with the confident fox, desperately trying to keep the presentation from going off the rails. The supremely silly story seems straightforward and then delightfully defies expectations, offering wildly inaccurate insights into furniture history and behavior. Garrulous graphite pencil and watercolor illustrations capture the hilarious high jinks with style and exuberance, and the clever stage-on-a-page depiction is a snazzy touch. A splendidly offbeat ode to the seemingly simple sofa. - Copyright 2024 Booklist.
