School Library Journal - 05/30/2025 Toddler-Gr 2—In this sweet tale of friendship, hare Molly, owl Olive, and fox Dexter play a lively game of tag. Dexter begins the game and tags Olive. Molly runs away, but Olive's wings are strong, and she tags Molly. Poor Dexter! He finds out he is no match for the big, thumping bunny paws and rabbit leaps nor can he outrun Olive. He is tired from all that running, so he takes some time to think and plan—that's what foxes do! Dexter comes up with a genius plan: he may not be able to outrun his two friends, but he can trick them. Readers will be entertained by the winsome pastel illustrations that bring the story to life. Rayner takes the simple childhood game of tag and makes it whimsical. End papers feature beautiful watercolor illustrations of the giant oak tree and the animals' meadow. VERDICT Add this to collections; it's perfect for toddlers and beyond.—Pamela McLeod Thompson - Copyright 2025 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
