Booklist - 05/01/2025 Each season is beautiful in its own way, but as Pak shows in his Changing Seasons series, the intervals between them can be just as special. Beginning with Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn (2016), each of this series' four picture books opens with one or two children walking outdoors and observing changes in the natural world. In this fourth and presumably final book, spring gives way to summer one afternoon as a girl steps out of her house and a rain shower ends. She walks across open fields, greeting the fluttering butterflies, swooping birds, and a garden of flowering plants. As open land gives way to a “bustling forest” and a schoolyard, she acknowledges the little trees and talks with young children at play. As the sun sets, the girl and her little brother walk home together. While the simply written text creates a framework for the story, some elements appear in the appealing illustrations alone, giving room for children to use their imaginations in interpreting the narrative. An enjoyable read-aloud choice as spring gives way to summer. - Copyright 2025 Booklist.
