School Library Journal - 06/12/2026 PreS-Gr 2—Few things bring the world together like soccer and the World Cup. One of the most popular sports worldwide cultivates excitement and unity throughout many countries. This book opens with flags from all around the globe, showing how sports can encourage diversity and togetherness. Simple text and whimsical, colorful illustrations depict families gathered at home to cheer on their team, as well as the passion and energy radiating from the stadiums. Players from various countries pour their heart out onto the fields, and fans react with heavy emotion (written in multiple languages) depending on if their team wins or loses, but one word unites everyone: "el Gooooooooooool." VERDICT An excellent addition to a picture book collection that promotes diversity, sportsmanship, and world unity.—Kristen Todd-Wurm - Copyright 2026 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
