Booklist - 10/01/2024 Noting the crisp weather outside, Maya excitedly puts on her yellow sweater exclaiming, “Sweater weather!” Her cheerfulness dampens when her cat, Whiskers, pulls on the sweater, undoing the yarn. Though initially sad, Maya finds comfort in the cat’s joy as it plays with the yarn. On her way to school, she encounters various people and animals who could use some string. Wanting to help, she unravels her sweater, happily offering bits of yarn to those around her, from a bird building a nest to a boy with an embarrassing rip in his pants. Over the course of the day, Maya’s sweater dwindles until, finally, she’s left wearing only her white T-shirt. Maya finds herself cold on the bus when, suddenly, an older lady kindly comes to her rescue. The multimedia illustrations are bold and bright, pairing perfectly with the optimistic, upbeat message of the book. Text and speech bubbles are mixed throughout, adding visual interest. Racially diverse characters populate the book, quietly championing inclusivity. A cozy, warm story, celebrating kindness and sharing. - Copyright 2024 Booklist.
