Booklist - 09/15/2024 This overview of fascinating facts and figures about the world shows images can be more powerful than words. It focuses on the solar system, our planet earth, the history of the earth, one day on earth, creatures, disasters on earth, and our earth’s future. The late Jenkins’ trademark cut- and torn-paper illustrations accompany eye-opening infographics including diagrams, charts, symbols and graphs to engage and enlighten readers. Amazing facts are easy to grasp when displayed as infographics, such as one showing that the sun is as wide as 109 Earths. Particularly interesting is the section covering what happens in just one 24-hour day. An impressive visual illustrates how many times an adult human’s heart beats per day and how many barrels of blood that equals. The comparisons used are very concrete, easy to understand, and often quirky, such as the fact that “continents move at about the same rate that your fingernails grow.” Visual learners as well as anyone who loves knowing the facts about things will be informed and entertained. Includes glossary, bibliography, and author’s note. - Copyright 2024 Booklist.
