Booklist - 04/01/2026 The loosely tethered events of The Last Cuentista (2021) and Alejibres (2023) become firmly linked in Higuera’s trilogy conclusion. A message from Earth has been received on Sagan, the planet colonized by humans who believed that Earth could no longer support life, asserting that life has persisted on the planet and people wishing to return will be welcomed back. Petra, now an old woman, passes her memories and stories on to her science-minded granddaughter, Itzel, who has mixed feelings about leaving Sagan and the many she loves behind. But leave she must, as her father sees this as a chance for a better life, much like their ancestors once viewed Sagan. Much of the narrative unfolds as recollections and stories that pull the first two novels together and strengthen Itzel’s understanding of herself and her ability to navigate the challenges ahead. Her grandmother’s stories take on more resonant meaning once Itzel arrives on Earth, allowing the girl to understand that communication and compassion are as vital to life as food and water. - Copyright 2026 Booklist.
