Full Text Reviews:

School Library Journal - 12/12/2025 PreS-Gr 2—Best friends Bookie and Cookie open a blank book and write their own story. Bookie is hopeful and optimistic that the newly written story will be full of fun and excitement, while Cookie is pessimistic and believes that the day will not be good at all. With each turn of the page, Bookie suggests an enticing adventure, such as finding a hidden library, but Cookie quashes each thrilling discovery with a reason the adventure will not be fun, such as finding a monster in the hidden library. Through the story, Cookie evolves and begins to see the possibilities of the pages Bookie imagines. By the end of the story, Bookie and Cookie embark on an undiscovered adventure alongside a newly discovered friend. Childlike crayon drawings fill each page with color and bring the story to life. Characters throughout the story are depicted in a variety of skin tones from light tan to dark brown. VERDICT This story teaches young children the importance of mindset and perspective, making it a first purchase for all collections.—Misty Schattle - Copyright 2025 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
