Booklist - 04/01/2024 Culture, as a concept, is distilled to mean a group of people’s “ways of life,” in this helpful selection from the Social Studies Matters! series (6 titles). General explanations of key areas beneath this umbrella follow in topical two-page spreads on such subjects as traditions, foods, language, the arts, and value systems. Bright, full-page stock photos frequently show multiracial groups of happy children or family scenes. The text is printed in a large font with widely spaced lines, giving support to newly independent readers, and its overall tone is positive and neutral. The book explains that cultural practices are often passed down from one generation to the next and that practices or beliefs can change over time. Boldface vocabulary is defined in a glossary, and age-appropriate resources are appended. - Copyright 2024 Booklist.
