School Library Journal - 01/01/2026 PreS-Gr 2—A good introduction to riding the bus for children. In this silly book, a pair of goofy melons take on the world of bus riding and the "dews" and don'ts of responsible ridership. The main melons—Cantaloupe and HoneyDo—are a bus-riding duo who meet and chat with various friends along their route. While riding, they teach each other and their new friends about various bus rules, though the rule about not eating gum from the ceiling seems like a bit of a stretch. The graphic-style illustrations are and attention-grabbing, especially for very young children. The funny and chaotic scenes are reminiscent of popular and busy cartoons. Humor is used as a tool to reach readers, and the jokes work at times. This book would work best with a very young audience and would be a great way to calm anxious new students who may have nervous feelings about riding the bus, along with confronting other new things. VERDICT A good segue to reassurance for the very young, but this may be too specific for a wider audience.—Kelly Costanza - Copyright 2026 Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and/or School Library Journal used with permission.
